This allows mods to be distributed as raw files, rather than as packed dvdbnd archives. UnpackDarkSoulsForModding Unpacks Dark Souls 1 archive files for easier modding. This allows mods to be distributed as raw files, rather than as packed dvdbnd archives. Dark Souls Flora Overhaul A few retextures of the flora. This mod is absolutely necessary to edit all important graphics settings, specifically if your monitor refresh rate is an uncommon number, or if your computer struggles to run the game at a playable frame rate. If you want Dark Souls at 60fps, in 4k, then there's even more reason to get this mod. Note that 60fps may cause minor bugs in the game - the most severe is a ladder glitch. 15 Best Dark Souls Mods: Enhanced and Amplified #15 DSFix. #14 Morten242s UI. #13 Collected UI Adjustments. #12 Mouse Fix. #11 Lava Eyesore Fix. #10 HD Player Messages. #9 HD Summon Signs. #8 Lowest Common Denominator HD Textures. #7 Tree LowRes Texture Fix. #6 High-Res UI and Subtitle.

These are some of the mods I've been using in my current play through:This mod is essentially mandatory to play this game. Make sure you set everything up in the config files.Improves all the textures in the game. 2 - 4x better. This goes in the dsfix folder called texoverride. Make sure you enable texture override in DSFix settingsMakes the UI and Subtitles display over 720p.
Place in texoverrideImproves the plants and trees in Dark Souls immensely. Place in texoverrideFixes trees in game that are stuck in low res LOD textures.
Pretty sure this goes in texoverride also.Cleans up the lava in the game and makes it less bright. Download the small res version. It can mess up FPS on higher ones. Place in texoverrideTitle says it all. Place in texoverrideImproves the 360 icons in the game. Place in texoverrideThat's everything!

If you are looking for an easy way to install most of these mods, some of them are compatible with Nexus Mod Manager. That will make it easier. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!. No one can tell you what texture mods to use. Just try 'em out and see if it suits you (for example, I like my Hellkite Drake in black). Some words of advice though:1) As we all sort of know already, Dark Souls is poorly optimized for the PC. It only utilizes two cores so if there's issues, just remember it's the port, not your computer.2) Having said that, a good way to test your modded game is to take the elevator from Firelink Shrine to New Londo Ruins and walk towards Valley of Drakes.
If you experience stutter with some texture overhaul mods, you might want to try lower-res versions or to remove them completely.3) will tank your frames in Quelaag's Domain while it loads. I see it recommended a lot but it was too immersion breaking for me.Hope that helps.

Go experiment and have fun!Edit: Forgot to mention that you can mix-and-match textures so if one is causing you problems, which is usually flora, try removing those but keeping the other stuff. I use keyboard and mouse, so mouse fix is awesome.I use some HUD mods that are awesome, pick the ones you like most. Some reskins are cool.As for textures, there is a limitation to what DSFix can handle for texture mods, so you can't get much better than vanilla as far as environment textures, though there are some texture packs that make it look a bit better and I like them.
Some people experience 'lag' or stuttering when entering a new area with those mods installed.Unlocking FPS to 60 in DSFix is awesome though you have to toggle it back to 30 sometimes to make certain jumps and such, and skipping intro videos, and scaling down the HUD that takes up a shitload of screen real estate, but all those things are definitely dependent on your own tastes. Have fun modding, there are a lot of things you can do. NOTE: DSfix isn't meant to handle over 300MB of textures, as there's a limitation with how the injector accesses the engine. If you exceed this amount, you'll likely experience a LOT of stuttering. Some texture mods will conflict, so for those I'd recommend unpacking the larger scale mods first and then deciding which mods you want to give priority. It helps if you set up everything to be compatible with the Nexus Mod Manager (will require changing file structures for some texture packs). Luckily the vast majority will only be an override. I can't think of any texture conflicts that would cause a game crash.the, and are what I'd consider to be staple texture packs.

These are smaller, but I'm also partial to the, and mods.Aside from DSfix texture mods there's also SweetFX. It's a shader injector that allows you to add a whole bunch of post processing effects to the game (and any other DirectX 9, 10, or 11 game). You can get the manual install files, opt for the, or search the nexus for presets. Personally, I've found that SweetFX improves the visuals of the game far more than the texture packs for less performance cost, so I'd highly recommend picking it up.
With that in mind, gamers were able to fix the game by replacing the game's low-res textures with high definition ones, and enabling all manner of PC-centric optimizations to get the game looking, and feeling very much like it should've been had From Software done a better job with the port.Read on to find out what mods you can use to fix the game on the PC and get it to look like a current-generation game instead of something you might've played on the PlayStation 2.These mods are in no particular order. #15 DSFixyou install any of the other mods on this list the first thing you'll want to do is grab DSFix. If you plan on playing the game on the PC, this is the mod to get, especially because it fixes the unfortunate graphical issues that come with the vanilla version of the game. The game renders at a terribly low resolution of 720p with a framerate cap of 30fps, so getting DSFix fixes that.#14 Morten242s UIThis particular mod allows you to tweak the settings enabled by DSFix. You can alter the depth of field, HUD, SSAO, resolution, and more without having to dig into the configuration files. #5 Andres Cranial EmberOne of the biggest problems with the way characters look in Dark Souls is the odd shape of their heads.
This mod aims to fix that by replacing the head models for boht male and female characters. It applies not only to the player character but to NPCs as well. The textures are more realistic and reduces the doll-like gaze of the original characters.Download.#4 SweetFX HDRThis makes the game pretty by adding SMAA, post-process sharpening, realistic darkness, more saturated colors, and a whole lot more. Be warned that the mod can be particularly hardware intensive. Download.#3 Flora OverhaulThis mod replaces all of the floral and plant textures in Dark Souls. It can be hardware intensive, so be sure to give it a whirl before you decide on leaving it installed permanently.Download.#2 Anor Londo Better Distance TexturesThe game may look fine on the console with 720p graphics, but installing DSFix can make the long-distance views particularly jarring, particularly in Anor Londo.
Installing this mod will improve the definition of the long-distance textures so it doesn't look like a blurry mess.Download.#1 Thanks ObamaInstead of being taunted with a 'YOU ARE DEAD' message, the game simply thanks President Barack Obama for your predicament instead. Thanks Obama.Download.
