When (uh, it is obnoxious work — not fun!) there are indicators that fill up as you acquire more resources. (Eezo, Iridium, Platinum, Palladium)Do these indicators show the maximum spare resources your ship can store? If so, how many resources is 100% on the indicator for each material? Or can you go over these limits? Morag tong vs dark brotherhood.

Or if you try to go over is the material wasted? If you go over this limit by picking up materials when not planet scanning (when down on a planet or space station), do you get credit rewards instead, like if you go over your Medi-gel limit?

I remember back when I had this on the 360 that I could use the joysticks on the controller to make scanning go by pretty quickly but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this on PC. All I can do is move the scanner to the edges of the planet to get it to rotate, but that entails constantly moving the mouse around to start and stop a spin which makes it much more likely that a spike will be skipped.
