The Fender Telecaster, colloquially known as the Tele / ˈ t ɛ l i /, is the world's first commercially successful solid-body electric guitar. Its simple yet effective design and revolutionary sound broke ground and set trends in electric guitar manufacturing and popular music.
In early 1951, Fender renamed its only production solid-body guitar the Telecaster, replacing the short-lived Broadcaster moniker used in late 1950. The Telecaster quickly became the guitar of its age, propelling the status of the solid-body electric guitar from novelty to the defining instrument of popular music. Like most long-lasting guitar models, the Tele has seen its share of variations and specialty models come off the line since the early '50s. The standard no-frills Telecaster, however, has stayed largely the same, strutting two single-coil pickups, a slab body of Ash (or later Alder), and an unmistakable twang that helped shape the sound of country and rock music. Starting in 1988, the main American-made Telecaster was renamed the American Standard Telecaster to avoid confusion with those built in Japan and Mexico.Years of Production: 1951 - presentBody Style: Single cutaway solid-bodyWood Composition: Alder or Ash body, Maple neck, Maple or Rosewood fingerboardDesign Elements: Two single-coil pickups, white pickguard, volume and tone controls, 25 1/2-inch scale lengthNotable Tele Players: Keith Richards, Merle Haggard, Johnny Greenwood, James BurtonRelated Articles.
You know when you have 'that sound' in your head, but you can't get your guitar to sound like it? I've had that problem! I've had probably a dozen Strats, Les Pauls, SGs, Ibanez, etc.

Finally, with the help from this wonderful forum, I'm now a part of the Telecaster family!Spent a few days last week trying out guitars. Played MIM standards, Deluxe Nashville and a Blacktop. I was just about ready to pull the trigger on a MIM, but wasn't terribly happy with the neck, it was just too thick. This was on Friday last week. So, I temporarily abandoned my search and played a show Friday night, used my trusty MIA standard strat. All it did was made me realize that I wanted an american standard tele, not a mexican.
So, I searched even harder and found this beauty! Picked it up for a mere $750 clams. It's in amazing condition for being over 20 years old. Hardly any body wear or fret ware. Neck is straight as an arrow, only one small ding.
Honestly, I've bought brand new guitars in worse condition than this!As far as I'm concerned, it's all stock. Pickups sound amazing. No desire to swap them out. The TBX tone control is interesting as well. This is also the first guitar that I've ever owned that I simply can't put down!

My wife was surprised, she said that she never hears me practice, because I hate practicing. Maybe I just hated practicing because I never liked the tone of my guitars. The feel is perfect. It's even the best sounding electric guitar unplugged! I simply love playing it - I wouldn't even care if I had to sell the rest of my guitars tomorrow (though I'd want to keep one as a backup for gigging). It's a great feeling.Anyway, thanks for the advice, appreciate it. All the rest of my guitars were bought because I wanted them. This one is because I want great tone.
